Clean Sweep by Beneast in Preston
Young people from locally based Beneast Training are joining forces with Preston City Council on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th August for a litter pick event to improve Moor Park.
As part of a vocational programme, ten local youngsters aged between 16 and 19 have volunteered to work in the community clearing the park of litter.
This marks the third of several clean-up events planned between Preston City Council and volunteers from Beneast Training in recent months.
The Council are getting involved with a number of volunteer groups to organise clean-ups, which is part of the initiative promoted by the Keep Britain Tidy ‘Big Tidy Up’ campaign.
This annual event encourages community groups throughout the country to tidy up an area in their local community and try to make a difference, raising awareness of the litter issue.
Councillor Anthony Gornall, cabinet member for environment, said: “It is great to see young people volunteering to improve their own communities.
“The problem of litter in Preston is always challenging, and despite the huge sums spent on cleaning up Preston each year there are still issues in some areas, and the only way to keep public spaces is with support of the community.
“Cleaning up Moor Park will bring benefits to park users and local residents and I would like to thank Beneast Training and the young people involved for their support.”
